A short history
Langley opened to students on September 2, 1965. Construction began in September 1964, cost $2.8 million and was finished after the school year started. The school’s history page says it opened as an integrated school in the final year of Fairfax County’s desegregation process and was the first public school in the county built with central air conditioning. During planning it was called Potomac View High School, and the School Board chose “Langley” to reflect its location. Elam K. Hertzler was the first principal. Source: the school’s history page.
