A short history
The first Herndon High School opened in 1911 on Locust Street, on the site of today’s Herndon Middle School. In 1914 it became the county’s first fully accredited high school. A fire destroyed the building in January 1927, and a replacement followed. The school moved to its present Bennett Street site on September 5, 1967. Fairfax County schools were segregated by race until the end of the 1965-66 school year.
