Planning began in 1962, when Reston’s master plan was created. Lake Anne first opened to students on January 17, 1967. The school’s history page says it helped shape the design of Reston’s first village center, Lake Anne. In the 1990s it became one of the first ten Fairfax County schools to offer what was then called partial Spanish immersion. Air conditioning was installed building-wide in 1992 for $305,320.
